Dan gave a presentation on a proposed approach to nutrient criteria development in lakes and reservoirs, based on several factors, including watershed size, depth of waterbody, and residence time. A copy of the presentation will be delivered separately.

Mark gave a general summary of the lake nutrient data, including ranges of cause and response variables in the regions of the states, as well as the relationships between cause and response variables. A copy of the presentation will be delivered separately.

Discussion after the presentations consisted of a number of questions for which the answers weren’t immediately available.

  • Drinking water lakes in Northern Missouri – What is the mean depth of those lakes? Are they impaired? Are impairments caused by Nitrogen and Phosphorus? Don Scott (PDW) might be a good speaker for that subject.
  • Best Management Practices – how do we grade the effectiveness of BMP’s?
  • What is Impaired? How do we determine impairment? How closely tied is the cause (N & P) with the response (Chl a, and Secchi)? What other factors play a roll (turbidity, stratification, algal species)
