Great
Meramec GPS Paddle – 2008
kayakswarm
The kayakswarm is an unofficial group of paddling aficionados who enjoy
paddling our local
rivers and streams. Members include both recreational as well as more
advanced boaters. Our
typical venues include early morning exercise paddles, ad-hoc weekend
paddles, moonlight
swarms, and added in 2008 The Great Meramec GPS Paddle.
The kayakswarm in 2008, teaming with Missouri
Stream
Teams, provided water quality
data and
pictures of every river mile of the Meramec. The trek included 60
participants who paddled over
18 day trips, of whom 6 paddled the entire river in 2008.
The Great Meramec Paddle was not just a field trip! Along the way some
collected data, others
fished, others enjoyed the scenery, and some introduced new people to
the streams beauty and
potential problems.
In this website you will find:
1. River Pictures of 201 River Miles:
This file contains 2685 river pictures indexed from mile 1 –
201.
The pictures are labeled, and the
pictures after the GPS mile river bank pictures are sequential until
the next GPS mile. The
pictures include shots of interesting natural features of the river,
GPS river bank pictures, objects
of concern, and pictures that may be representative of that mile
section. This file and its pictures
may be valuable for river planning and river marketing use.
2. GPS
River Bank Pictures Each
Mile:
This file contains the 805 GPS river mile pictures indexed from the
2685 pictures above. Only the
GPS river bank pictures at each mile mark are included in this file. At
each mile there is a label
board picture, a downriver picture, a right bank picture, and a left
bank picture. This file may be
more valuable to regulators and river advocates as a tool to measure
the rivers conditions in 2008.
Or to be used to compare to future conditions if the same GPS miles are
repeated in future years.
3. GPS Coordinate Key
This pdf contains the actual GPS coordinates of each river mile.
4. Water Quality Data Every Mile
This pdf contains the water quality data collected at each GPS measured
mile in 2008.
